Gotta Have It: Burgundy

I have seen so many posts in my blog feed about burgundy! This color has become such a haute trend this season, it's crazy! There are so many ways to wear burgundy, so it's really easy to add this classy color to your style.

Look 1: A Dark Pout
Sport a burgundy lip and leave the rest of your face fairly natural. Top it with a gloss in a similar color if you're feeling daring.

Try Yves Saint Laurent in 31 Rose Fusain.
*Extra credit: Add a graphic black winged liner to your eyes. My favorite is Stila.

Look 2: Sultry Nails
File your nails, smooth and rounded at the tops, and apply a burgundy nail polish. Then, finish it off with a generous amount of top coat to add deep shine.
Try OPI Nail Polish in Diva in Geneva with Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color in Flawless (my favorite!)
*
Tip: I like to start with a layer of the Sally Hansen on my bare nails first, to strengthen my nails and prevent breakage, and then I add the OPI nail color, and then another layer of Sally Hansen as a top coat.

Look 3: Rock the Knits
Find a burgundy shade in the knits! Knits are always stylish in the winter and fall, so this look will never go out of style! If I'm in a rush, I'll usually throw on a knit sweater and pair of black leggings, and my brown boots. I found this awesome sweater at H&M that has a nice cable knit pattern on the front, and it's super comfy to wear! I couldn't find it online, but this cardigan is a great burgundy knit.

Look 4: A Little Spice
I always like to look my best, and I'm all for dressing up for class. I love wearing low heels around campus because they add a little height (I always want to look taller), they're pretty comfortable, and they look cute! These shoes by Anne Klein are adorable little pumps that you could wear anywhere, anyday. The heel is fairly low so it wouldn't kill your feet with the pain of a pump, and the style of them is simple so it would match so many outfits. Burgundy shoes would add a touch of class to any look.

Giving any of these looks a try? Have other ways you wear burgundy? Let me know!

The Time to Shop is NOW! Here's why...

Good morning! A little beauty advice to start off your day!
Lots of cosmetic stores like ULTA and Sephora have their post-holiday clearance going on now. They're trying to get rid of all their holiday products that didn't sell. You'll find some awesome marked-down deals on high quality products like philosophy soap, and also some fabulous bargains on their gift sets! The holidays are over, why not treat yourself a little? Super sales like these are far and inbetween, so I would recommend that everyone take advantage of it now! You can also shop these sales to stock up on future presents for friends!

Food For Thought

I saw this quote the other day, and I thought it was quite interesting:

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."

Let's Raise a Toast to Wine

In love with Wine

Fresh lip treatment
beauty.com

Hello fashionistas! I am totally obsessed with deep red and wine colors! I have been wearing them since fall and the wine shade was a such a classy color to don during the holidays. It's darker than a bold red, but different from your average purple. Fresh has a line of lip balm, Sugar, and my favorite shade is Passion. Passion may surprise you because it applies as a very pigmented red shade, but it is a tinted lip balm. Tinted lip balms are a great way to try out lip colors, they're cheaper than lipsticks and they don't make a mess. A red lip is such a classic element of beauty, and I love that Fresh makes it easy to try with their tinted lip balm.

Pictured above is that essential American Eagle buttondown I mentioned in my previous post. A great way to wear this top would be unbuttoned with a neutral tank underneath, paired with black leggings, and brown boots. Wine is a color that is an accent on it's own, complementary colors would be neutrals or jewel tones. You can personalize this look by wearing a statement necklace or earrings, or a scarf!

OPI's Diva of Geneva nail polish has been my favorite color to wear this winter because it's a sophisticated dark color that's not too dark. Some of the darker burgundies and plums out there make my nails look too dark, like they got bruised from being slammed in the door... not really my favorite color to sport. I love how this color has a slightly metallic finish. It's shiny, especially with my Sally Hansen clear top coat. OPI's nail polishes can be pricey, but you're paying for a really beautiful nail polish that's smooth and fluid. You don't see streaks with OPI, as you often can with cheaper polishes.

My Post-Holiday Finds!

Shopping trip 1-7-13

Lady gaga fame perfume
lordandtaylor.com

Hey there, followers! I just wanted to share my little shopping trip with you all! I finally got this cute shirt from American Eagle! I have been eyeing this shirt for months and I found it on clearance at the mall! I am so excited to finally have this in my wardrobe, this maroonish color has become one of my favorites recently and I love American Eagle's button down shirts. They're so comfy to wear but they can also really pull an outfit together! I have another one in a lightwash denim color and I like to roll up the sleeves and wear it as a faux jacket sometimes. It's light, but it keeps me covered.

The perfume is Fame by Lady Gaga. I am a huge fan of hers. I must share with you guys that I went through this phase, my junior year of high school where I wanted to be her. This perfume is fabulous, just like Lady Gaga. The full size bottles have these elaborate gold tops that resemble gold claws, but on my budget, I got the next best thing: the roller ball eau de parfum. Product details describe fame:
"From the HAUS LABORATORIES in Paris. The first ever black Eau de Parfum compounded by Lady Gaga. It's black like the soul of fame, but invisible once airborne."

  • Fragrance notes:
  • Dark facet- Incense, Belladonna.
  • Sensual facet- Apricot, Honey.
  • Feminine facet- Jasmine Samac, Tiger Orchidea.

  • My impression of the scent was that it was a bit dark but I could sense the feminine facet. Fame has a fruity and floral sort of scent, I could definitely smell the apricot and jasmine notes.  This would be a scent the I would wear on the weekends, and on special occasions or dates. It's too dark for me to wear as an everyday scent, but I'm definitely looking forward to wearing it when I'm out with my friends!

On the runway: A Resort Look

Hi everyone! Here today I have the resort look from a fashion show I did back in November. I love the bright colors in this outfit. These colors are for girls who like to have fun in the sun! Shades on the brighter side of the spectrum are so great to wear outside when it's sunny because the light really brings attention to all the colors. Keep an eye out, ladies! The spring trends are already out, and it's never too early to start compiling a new wardrobe! One thing I really admire in this outfit is the white skirt. I personally think that  white is such a daring color to wear, due to the fact that it gets dirty so easily! This white skirt really brightens up the outfit. The top is relaxed, yet sophisticated. An over the shoulder bag is an essential for traveling! It keeps your hands free so you can take photos, enjoy drinks, build sandcastles, and whatever you feel like because, hey, you're on vacation!
I'll be spending a lot of time at the beach very soon because I'm going on vacation! It's due time that I enjoy a little sun, away from the cold New York winter.
    Stay warm, everyone!
